Vivi Vhal

Using Nymeia's gift, and suffering her curse.

Fate's Grand Design

For most of her young life, Vivi felt lost for purpose. She'd been accosted by regular fainting spells and convulsions. In all such events, as well as when she slept, she dreamt of things yet to come, things that almost always proved true. And yet, when she asked, no one around her knew a thing about such a phenomenon, much less believed her stories in the first place. It was only after striking out on her own, and learning of Eorzea's gods, that realization struck her. Or, at least, the floor did, following a sudden loss of consciousness.

As she laid in an Ul'dah library, convulsing on the floor, her vision once again brought her to a future to be, one in which she followed the deity Nymeia above all others. Arising from her stupor, surrounded by concerned locals, she had only one thought on her mind.

What was Nymeia's plan for her?

"I can't explain what you wouldn't understand."

Most of the time, Vivi makes an effort to keep her little gazes into the future secret. However, even among those few who know of her gift, even fewer ever get to hear of her visions, whether it be of them or someone else.

Fate is as fickle as its goddess, and while most things Vivi sees come to pass, on more than a few occasions, she has seen fate challenged and triumphed over, or even beaten through blind luck. Regardless, she doesn't believe it's her place to try and intervene, only to study...for better or worse.

"I'd be happy to help! Let's not invite that new friend of yours, though."

And yet, despite her best efforts, Vivi can't help but try and steer those she cares about away from danger, even knowing that, at times, her visions come to pass through her own doing.

Oddly, despite a thousand dreams showing her the fate of others, only one has ever been of herself. This, and the fact that most of those she dreams of end up being powerful individuals with fascinating tales, leads Vivi to seek out the people in her visions. Rarely does this lead to any new realizations about her gift, but it does often lead to friendships, or at least a bit of entertaining companionship. And companionship is worth a great deal all on its own.
